Deform-Nut® 10446/X.P15 – IP-Rated Blind Rivet Nut for Thin Materials

Technical Specifications & Applications

The Deform-Nut® 10446/X.P15 is a stainless-steel closed end hexagonal rivet nut designed for thin sheet-metal and tubular structures, offering reliable internal thread anchoring (metric M4 to M8) for sheet thicknesses from 0.5 mm up to 2.5 mm. The blind rivet nut is deformed using a manual tool, an electric rivet nut gun, or a pneumatic rivet nut gun by pulling the internal thread back against the flange after the nut has been placed into the pre-drilled hole in the sheet.

With the X.P15 version, sealing is achieved through a pre-applied Precote-15 coating under the rivet nut head — delivering a dry, elastic, chemically and thermally resistant seal.

The Precote-15 sealing system is certified for threaded joints and provides leak-tight performance immediately after assembly. This makes the 10446/X.P15 ideal for installations requiring water-, dust-, and chemical-resistant fastening, e.g. electronic housings, enclosures, HVAC units, metal cabinets, and industrial enclosures.

Description

By punching the external hex shape into the sheet, a closed-end hexagonal blind rivet nut with a flat head can offer better resistance to rotation than cylindrical blind rivet nuts.

Benefits of Blind Rivet Nuts with pre-applied sealing in Industrial and OEM Projects

Using blind rivet nuts ensures:

  • A robust, wear-resistant internal thread allowing repeated assembly/disassembly — even when base material is too thin for tapped holes.

  • Enhanced load distribution and improved pull-out and torque resistance due to increased bearing surface across the base material.

  • Efficient installation with standard blind-rivet tools — compatible with pneumatic, electric or manual installation, suitable for automated production lines.

  • Quick, secure fastening from one side — optimal for closed profiles, tubes, channel structures, and composite panels common in OEM manufacturing.

These advantages make the 10446/X.P15 especially suitable for B2B sectors such as machine building, automotive, electrical enclosures, HVAC, marine/offshore and industrial cabinets.

Precote-15 Sealing: Why It Matters for High-Performance Fastening

Precote-15 is a non-reactive coating applied on the rivet nut that ensures immediate sealing — no additional gaskets, O-rings or liquid sealants needed.

Its properties include:

  • Dry-to-touch, elastic coating that fills the gap between internal and external threads, providing a pressure-tight seal.

  • Chemical and thermal resistance: tested to withstand temperatures from –60 °C to +200 °C (–75 °F to +390 °F) and resistant to engine oils, diesel, antifreeze, transmission fluids and other aggressive media.

  • Reliable sealing against gases, petroleum-based products, brake or hydraulic fluids, water and many other liquids.
Thus, the 10446/X.P15 version offers a high-performance, maintenance-free sealing solution well-suited to demanding industrial environments, including HVAC, automotive, electronics enclosures, and outdoor metal housings.

Application Limits & Recommendations

  • As with any specialized sealed insert, we recommend performing a trial installation in your actual production or end-use environment to verify sealing, load-bearing, torque and chemical compatibility. This is especially important when mixing materials (e.g. stainless steel with aluminum, composite panels, etc.).

  • For applications involving aggressive hydrocarbon exposure (fuels, mineral oils, solvents), ensure that the Precote-15 sealant’s chemical resistance is compatible with the specific fluid. Precote-15 is certified for petroleum-based media per automotive industry standards.

  • Avoid using incompatible sealing materials (e.g. EPDM rubber) in such aggressive environments — as EPDM may degrade under hydrocarbons.
